On June 24, 2023, the Fort Mose Historical Society and local militia will reenact the Battle of Bloody Mose, which occurred in St. Augustine in 1740 between Spanish and British forces. Visitors can witness how the people of Fort Mose and St. Augustine became players in the conflict that involved African-descended people and indigenous Floridians. The event will include two battle reenactments, an opening and closing ceremony, and other activities such as a Women of Mose station. Tristyn Bailey’s Legacy Lives on Through Memorial Golf Tournament
The first Tristyn Bailey Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for November 6 at the St. Johns Golf and Country Club. The event is being organized in memory of Tristyn, a 13-year-old cheerleader, who was murdered on Mother’s Day in 2021. The tournament will include fun events such as a pole vault competition and silent auction. The money raised will go to the Tristyn Bailey Memorial Fund, which supports the Community Foundation for Northeast Florida, and further initiatives including scholarships, self-defense classes, and providing support for families of other crime victims. St. Johns County receives a whopping $59 million boost for transportation and coastal protection initiatives.
St. Johns County government has been awarded $59 million in appropriations by the State of Florida. This funding surpasses the $12.4 million allocated last year, making it the largest amount received by the county so far. A significant portion of the funds- $25 million- will be used to completely restore North Ponte Vedra Beach, which has been critically eroded over the years. Additionally, $15 million has been allocated for the extension of County Road 2209 to International Golf Parkway, and another $19 million for enhancing safety along transportation corridors and coastal barrier islands.
