A woman from St. Johns County, Florida, claims she has overpaid hundreds of dollars in sales tax on Amazon orders due to the company charging her the higher Duval County rate. Marianne Hatcher, who lives in the unincorporated Julington Creek area, discovered the discrepancy after noticing her orders cost less when shipped to her daughter in Orlando. She found that Amazon had been charging her the 7.5% Duval County tax rate instead of the 6.5% St. Johns County rate for about a decade. Hatcher managed to correct the issue by manually changing her delivery address city from “Jacksonville” to “St. Johns”. Amazon has apologized and is investigating the issue.
