St. Johns County Deputies Issue Warning After Victim Pays $5,000 to Alleged Defense Attorney

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office in Florida has issued a warning about a scam after a resident was tricked into giving thousands of dollars to a man claiming to be a defense attorney. The victim was contacted by a stranger who claimed her daughter was in jail and needed $5,000 for bail. The scammer, posing as a defense attorney named Matt Arnold, collected the money from the victim at her home. Arnold is described as a white man in his 50s with facial hair, wearing a T-shirt and Bermuda shorts, and driving a gray Ford sedan. The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information to contact them.
