The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office in Florida has issued a warning about a scam after a resident was tricked into giving thousands of dollars to a man claiming to be a defense attorney. The victim was contacted by a stranger who claimed her daughter was in jail and needed $5,000 for bail. The scammer, posing as a defense attorney named Matt Arnold, collected the money from the victim at her home. The St. Johns County School Board in Florida has unanimously approved attendance zone changes for two new schools set to open next fall. The first school, known as “NN,” is a K-8 school in the Shearwater area, which will accommodate over 1,000 students from eight neighborhoods. The St. Johns County School District has agreed to increase pay for school bus drivers, custodians, teacher aides, and other support staff. The collective bargaining agreement, approved by the school board, amounts to a $1.2 million compensation package. This means a minimum pay increase of $450 for staff with 13 years of experience or less, and about $500 more for those with 14 years of experience.
