A married couple and their dog were aboard a small plane that crashed in St. Augustine, Florida, after struggling to gain elevation during takeoff. The woman has burns to her feet, and the pilot has burns to 45% of his body. The couple’s dog died from injuries sustained in the crash. A bystander who witnessed the rescue attempt said the pilot was seriously injured before encountering the flames and had to jump into the fire. Rescuers pulled him out by reaching through the fire and grabbing his hands. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
