A new professional soccer franchise in Northeast Florida is making progress towards a $30 million training site in northwestern St. Johns County. The St. Johns County board of commissioners voted 5-0 to pursue a possible public partnership with the JAXUSL ownership group, which includes former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Tim Tebow. The site would serve as the training home for the region’s fourth professional franchise in men’s soccer and its first in women’s soccer. St. Augustine Firefighters Rescued Kitten Trapped Inside Car
Firefighters from Station 7 in St. Augustine Beach performed a brave rescue of a kitten on Thursday. A local resident approached the firefighters, informing them that she had heard the cries of a kitten stuck near the gas tank of her car while walking along the beach after work. Cory Mayo and Josh Romaine worked diligently for approximately 40 minutes to rescue the frightened kitten, luckily without any injuries. LERP design scrapped, artist goes back to the drawing board as construction starts without plans for confusing sculpture
Construction on the new Riverfront Plaza in Jacksonville, Northbank, began on Monday, but plans for a 150-foot “Jax” sculpture are being revised. The initial renderings of the sculpture received mixed reviews, with some opponents stating that it appeared to read as “Lerp” or “Derp” instead of “Jax.” Responding to community feedback during a Jax RiverJams concert on April 20, artist Jefre is working to refine the design.
