The Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Society is holding its annual conference in St. Augustine from April 28-30. Rawlings was a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, and the conference features programs about Rawlings’ contemporaries, lectures, and discussions. The event will include a wine-and-cheese reception, a banquet, a scenic river cruise, and a never-before produced short play by Rawlings’ friend and fellow author Zora Neale Hurston. Rawlings owned a second home in Crescent Beach, Florida and she, along with her husband Norton Sanford Baskin, owned a hotel in St. Augustine. St. Johns County calls for volunteers to aid in sea turtle nesting season cleanup.

Turtletown USA Beach Cleanup will be held in St. Johns County to prepare for the upcoming sea turtle nesting season between May to October. The annual cleanup will take place on May 14, and volunteers are asked to bring necessary items while supplies will be provided. St. Johns County Fire Rescue Commences Joint Fire and Sheriff’s Operations Center Construction

A new joint facility for the St. Johns County Fire Rescue and Sheriff’s Office Southwest Operations Center had its groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, which is expected to be completed in Summer 2024. The project was approved by the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners and has a budget of $10 million. The joint facility aims to provide faster emergency services and better convenience for the residents and visitors of the county.
