Commissioner Resigns After Verbal Confrontation With Police Over Wife’s Arrest

Just days after a former Beach Commissioner’s late night confrontation with police over the arrest of his wife, and less than an hour after 904 Now hosts called for his resignation on air Monday morning, Ernesto Torres has officially submitted his resignation to the City of St. Augustine Beach.

In a press release the city said, “On January 31st, Ernesto Torres resigned from his position as Seat 1 Commissioner for the City of St. Augustine Beach to spend more time with his family. We wish Mr. Torres and his family the best.
The Commission will address the process of filling the vacant seat at the February 7th Commission meeting.”

In a brief phone conversation with Vice-Mayor Rumrell, he told 904 Now that the resignation was, “the right thing for him [Torres] to do.”
