A surf instructor, Parker Sawyer, rescued a 14-year-old girl from the ocean at St. Augustine Beach, but was unable to save the 21-year-old man she was swimming with. The pair were in waist-deep water when they started struggling with the current. The man’s body was found unresponsive about a mile north of where he went missing. The girl and her mother, who were vendors from Michigan, were shaken up by the incident. The man, identified as Gerson, was from Mexico and had made plans to travel back to be with his family. His condition is unknown due to HIPPA laws.
