An engineering study has been conducted to find solutions to beach erosion and maintain the Summer Haven River in St. Johns County, Florida, following a nor’easter in 2021 that created a new inlet. The final reports are expected to be presented to the St. Johns County Commission in the next few months. The study will look at solutions such as sea walls, dune restoration, or abandoning shoreline development. The county has spent over $10 million since 2008 addressing erosion issues in the area. If the reports do not produce workable solutions, the coastal damage will only get worse.
