The St. Johns County Commissioners discussed an ordinance on Tuesday that would ban floating structures after several residents complained about a floating structure in the Matanzas Inlet owned by Hurricane Watersports. The owner, Jeffrey Thomas, rents out water trampolines, platforms, kayaks, and paddle boards, but county commissioner Henry Dean said that resident complaints referred to it as an eyesore, and said parties on the structure are disrupting people’s enjoyment of the inlet. Thomas said he doesn’t sell alcohol and had one live music festival on the structure, which brings the community together. The ordinance will have a second reading in early August. If passed, the county can ban anything considered a floating structure.
