The United Way of St. Johns County has announced that St. Johns County has been awarded $28,632 in federal funds through Phase 40 of the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program. The funds will be used to support emergency food and shelter programs in the local service area. A local board, composed of county, city, and human services agencies, as well as the United Way of St. Johns County, will be responsible for determining how the funds will be distributed.
Organizations in the local area, whether nonprofit or government, are eligible to apply for the funds. To qualify, organizations must undergo an annual audit, have non-discrimination policies in place, and demonstrate their ability to deliver emergency food and shelter programs. Examples of how the funds can be used include providing food through served meals or groceries, offering lodging in a mass shelter or hotel, providing necessary equipment for feeding and sheltering individuals, and covering one month’s rent, mortgage, or utility bill.
Qualified programs are encouraged to apply or obtain more information by contacting Jenny Harvey at jenny.harvey@unitedway-sjc.org or calling 904-829-9721.
