St. Johns County leaders are addressing an unfinished road project that has caused significant traffic issues in the area, particularly for Beachside High School. The project, which aimed to widen County Road 210, was not completed by the developer responsible. Interim County Administrator Joy Andrews explained that the project was a developer’s responsibility as part of the Twin Creeks development obligation. Despite several meetings between the county and the developer, the project remains incomplete. The traffic situation has become a major frustration for the community, considering County Road 210’s significant intersection with Interstate 95. The developer’s president strongly disputed the county’s claims and plans to provide evidence to support their position. In the meantime, Beachside High School has been compelled to adjust its start time from 9:20 to 9:35 a.m. due to the roadwork issues. The county has begun the process of adding traffic signals at Cumberland Park Drive and CR 210 to alleviate some of the delays until the road’s complete widening. The ultimate solution, according to Andrews, is widening the entire road. The construction process for this road widening project is estimated to take about 18 months and will hold the developer financially accountable. Total costs for the project are expected to reach $12.5 million.
