Parents in the Sevilla community of St. Johns County have expressed mixed feelings about recent changes to a bus route in their neighborhood. The change is related to the Two Mile Rule, which states that if a student lives less than two miles away from school and it’s deemed safe to walk, they are not eligible to ride the bus. The district transportation department made the change after adding a crosswalk to the area. A 16-year-old resident of St. Augustine tragically lost their life in a head-on collision that occurred on A1A at South Ponte Vedra and Beach Side Drive, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). The incident took place on Thursday around 4 p.m. A pickup truck traveling southbound was struck by the teenager’s northbound vehicle after it crossed the center line. Both the driver and a passenger, a 53-year-old man and woman from Jacksonville, sustained serious injuries in the crash. A 25-year-old boater named Charles Gregory, who had been reported missing, has been found and rescued by the United States Coast Guard off the coast of St. Augustine. The Coast Guard had been conducting a search for Gregory after he was last seen leaving the Lighthouse boat ramp on a 12-foot Jon boat. He was discovered approximately 12 miles away from the St. Augustine Shore and was subsequently brought back to shore at the Vilano Beach Pier.
