Over 200 new laws will take effect in St. Johns County starting Saturday. The laws cover a wide range of topics including education, taxes, and immigration. Notable laws include a $116.5 billion budget for the upcoming fiscal year, an expansion of taxpayer-funded vouchers to all students in Florida, and restrictions on teaching about sexual orientation and gender identity. Other laws include one that prevents property purchases in Florida by people from China who are not US citizens or permanent residents and another that requires school districts to share portions of local property-tax revenues with charter schools.
