Ability Housing has announced plans for a new affordable housing community in St. Johns County called Villages of New Augustine. The new community will have 92 units for working families and will be located in West Augustine. The development is planned to include a community center, outdoor recreational features, and 149 parking spaces. Ability Housing secured funding through various state, local, and private sources, including a $460,000 Affordable Housing Grant and a $1,207,134 award of American Rescue Plan Act funds from the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners. Man who stopped Ponte Vedra stabbing discharged from hospital
A mother and daughter were stabbed at a restaurant in Ponte Vedra this past weekend. Kennedy Armstrong, a patron of the restaurant, intervened to try to stop the suspect. Armstrong was the first victim released from the hospital and stated that he heard the other two victims are in stable condition. Armstrong sustained serious injuries to his right hand during the incident but stated that he would do it all over again if he had to. The Ponte Vedra Sea Turtle Patrol discovered a destroyed sea turtle nest last Friday, causing volunteers to spend hours reburying eggs and repairing the barrier. Patrol members suspect the incident occurred on Thursday night after a group had been partying on the beach, leaving behind alcoholic beverage containers and breaking down stakes and other markers surrounding the turtles’ area.
