A free shuttle service will be available with extended hours on April 8th from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. due to parking restrictions, road closures, and detours for the St. Augustine Easter Parade. Several streets will be closed to vehicular traffic during the parade, and visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the free park and ride shuttle service available from three parking locations outside of the downtown area. The shuttle’s drop-off and pick-up location is the Visitor Information Center. John L. Patton, a 100-year-old Navy veteran who served in World War II’s Pacific Theater, was honored by St. Johns County and local military organizations. Patton survived some of the most significant battles of the war, including the Battle of Midway, the torpedoing of the USS Saratoga, the Battle of the Eastern Solomons, and the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands, earning six Bronze Stars before he turned 20. A six-story, 105-room Hampton Inn & Suites is being planned on 3 acres at northeast Village Lake Drive and Town Plaza Drive in Nocatee, a master-planned community in Northern St. Johns and Southern Duval counties. The hotel will have a pool and is being developed by TC Development LLC, affiliated with the Davis family, founders of the Winn-Dixie grocery chain, who own the property and are working with The PARC Group, the Nocatee master developer.
