St. Johns County Fire Rescue Urges for Layered Approach to Sun Protection

St. Johns County Fire Rescue is reminding beachgoers to protect themselves from the sun and stay hydrated to avoid heat stroke. Tips include drinking plenty of fluids (without alcohol), using sunscreen and reapplying it after swimming, wearing protective clothing and sunglasses, avoiding the intense midday sun, and using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 15. Those spending extended periods in the sun should use a layered approach to protect themselves. Sunscreen works best when used with shade or clothes and should be reapplied every two hours and after sweating or swimming.
