St. Johns Residents may Have Say on Fate of World Golf Hall of Fame and IMAX

The IMAX theater and World Golf Hall of Fame and Museum in St. Johns County are set to close on September 2nd. The World Golf Hall of Fame, which has been located in St. Augustine’s World Golf Village since 1998, will be relocated to Pinehurst, North Carolina. While some of the properties will remain under the ownership of the World Golf Foundation, St. Johns County will retain the properties housing the IMAX theater and the Hall of Fame. The county plans to involve residents in determining the future use of these properties through a public engagement process. Ideas that have been suggested for the properties include a public library, health facilities, performance arts, business innovation, and life sciences activities. Local historic theater Sun Ray Cinema has expressed interest in taking over the IMAX facility. Some residents have suggested that expanding the theater to include more screens could increase its appeal to the local community. Ultimately, the decision on the fate of these properties lies with the Board of County Commissioners.
